Rhino poaching in Mozambique's Gaza Province

Overview

Mozambique Republic Police (PRM) apprehended a 38-year-old suspect following the poaching of a rhinoceros in the Massingir district of Gaza Province. The operation, conducted in coordination with reserve rangers, involved a raid on a residence that resulted in the seizure of four firearms, an axe, and two vehicles.

While one suspect is in custody, authorities are actively pursuing three other individuals involved in the incident. Carlos Macuácua, head of the PRM Public Relations Department in Gaza, confirmed that efforts to locate the fugitives are ongoing. This incident represents the second poaching case resolved by authorities in Gaza province this year.
