A Robinson R44 helicopter (registration PP-MFS) crashed in the Vista Chinesa region of Rio de Janeiro's Tijuca National Park, resulting in the deaths of four people. The victims, identified as pilot Alessandro Rocha and three members of a Colombian family—Rocio Cubillos (59), Wendy Manrique (37), and Sofia Murillo (17)—were found carbonized at the site following an explosion and subsequent forest fire. The family had been visiting Brazil for a 15th birthday celebration. The flight was a "doors off" sightseeing excursion operated by Voos Rio Panorâmicos e Serviços Aeronáuticos. The aircraft was reportedly in normal regulatory standing with the National Civil Aviation Agency (ANAC) at the time of the accident. Due to the steep and densely forested terrain, specialized units and approximately 40 military personnel were required to access the crash site, often utilizing specialized rope techniques. Investigations into the cause of the accident have been launched by the Civil ~~Police~~ Police, the Aeronautical Accident Investigation and ~~CENIPA.~~ Prevention Center (CENIPA), and the Brazilian Air Force. In the aftermath, Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere has formally requested that ANAC consider a temporary suspension of scenic flights for one to two weeks to facilitate rigorous inspections. The Mayor has called for intensified oversight regarding aircraft maintenance, helipads, and flight frequencies, noting that this tragedy follows another aerial accident in the city within approximately six weeks. While the municipal government has officially communicated this request to the president of ANAC, the Mayor acknowledged that the federal agency maintains final authority over regulatory decisions.
