Ripple RLUSD stablecoin regulatory and credit developments

Overview

Ripple has secured final approval from the U.S. Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) to establish Ripple National Trust Bank (RNTB). This federally supervised entity is designed to manage segregated reserves for the RLUSD stablecoin and provide fiduciary digital asset custody services to enterprise clients. RNTB will not accept deposits or provide loans, and it does not carry FDIC insurance.

Following this regulatory milestone, Moody’s Ratings assigned RLUSD an A2 long-term and P-1 short-term deposit rating. This marks the first time a stablecoin has achieved investment grade status under the agency’s framework. The rating is based on the quality of reserves, which consist primarily of cash and short-term U.S. government assets held by BNY. The issuance of RLUSD remains managed by the Standard Custody & Trust Company under New York Department of Financial Services regulation.
