Robotics and AI integration in South Korea
Overview
The integration of robotics and artificial intelligence into public entertainment and urban life has seen recent developments in South Korea.
In late August, Galaxy Corp launched the Galaxy Robot Park in Seoul. The 16,500-square-meter facility features humanoid robots performing K-pop choreography, robotic dogs, and interactive boxing matches. During a six-week trial, the park drew over 20,000 visitors, with CEO Choi Yong-ho noting the potential for robots to perform diverse roles such as serving food or drawing portraits.
Following this, the Gangnam Robot Plus Festival opened in mid-September. The event features 36 organizations showcasing technologies across 47 booths, including AI quadruped robot competitions and robot dance challenges. Local officials, including members of the Gangnam District Council, attended the festival to evaluate robot industry promotion policies. Chairman of the Economic City Committee Song Young-kwang expressed intentions to provide institutional support and budget to establish Gangnam as a “global robot-friendly city.”
