Roki Sasaki injury recovery and Dodgers return

Overview

Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Roki Sasaki is nearing a return to action following an injury to his right middle finger. After being on the 15-day injured list since late August, Sasaki participated in a live batting practice session on September 9, pitching five innings and recording 10 strikeouts.

Following this progress, Sasaki is expected to rejoin the Dodgers’ starting rotation as early as Sunday. Manager Dave Roberts indicated that Sasaki will remain in the rotation through the end of the regular season to help maintain a six-man rotation during the absences of Shohei Ohtani and Eric Lauer. Sasaki has shown improved performance since the All-Star break, recording a 2-0 record with an ERA just over 3.00 in seven starts.
