Rolls-Royce SMR is expanding its technological partnerships and supply chain integration for its small modular reactor (SMR) program. ABB and Rolls-Royce SMR signed a memorandum of understanding to explore integrating automation, electrification, and communication solutions to support a standardized, factory-built approach to nuclear project delivery. Rolls-Royce SMR is currently conducting site-specific design activities in North Wales and is working with ČEZ in the Czech Republic and Videberg Kraft in Sweden. To support international deployment, the Czech Chamber of Commerce and the Association of Energy Industry of the Czech Republic launched the modulreaktor.cz portal. This platform is designed to help Czech companies join the global supply chain for Rolls-Royce SMR projects, providing a centralized location for viewing tenders and expressing interest in services. The initiative seeks to integrate local industry into nuclear technology projects across the United Kingdom and Europe, with main commodity selection expected to continue through the end of 2027. In September 2026, Škoda JS, a subsidiary of the ČEZ Group, secured an exclusive contract to design and supply control rod drives for Rolls-Royce SMR’s reactors globally. Valued at approximately 40 million euros (1 billion CZK) per instance, the agreement tasks Škoda JS with developing a prototype for these power-regulating components before transitioning to mass production. These specialized linear motors, which weigh approximately 450 kilograms, are critical for regulating reactor power output and ensuring rapid emergency shutdowns. This follows previous selections of Škoda JS to supply reactor pressure vessels and primary circuit equipment. The first SMR in the Czech Republic is projected for construction at the Temelín Nuclear Power Station in the mid-to-late 2030s. In October 2026, Rolls-Royce SMR announced plans to construct a small modular reactor in Hungary, aiming for long-term industrial and technological cooperation.
