Romanian balneotherapy and spa sector developments

Recent developments in Romania highlight both social benefits and infrastructure investments within the balneotherapy sector.

In the counties of Argeș and Gorj, pension funds have initiated the distribution of balnear treatment tickets for the 12th series of 2026. These tickets, intended for stays in late October, allow beneficiaries to access various stations such as Amara, Băla, and Pucioasa.

Simultaneously, the Romanian Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism (MEDAT) has disbursed over 6 million lei to modernize spa and balneoclimateric resorts across five counties. This de minimis aid scheme supported nine projects involving private investments exceeding 12 million lei. The funding focused on expanding tourist reception, acquiring medical equipment for treatments, and upgrading infrastructure in locations including Băile Felix, Călimănești, and Tășnad. Minister Irineu Darău noted the objective is to leverage natural resources like mineral waters to meet European standards and provide an economic advantage.
