Romanian stadium upgrades, Dinamo's Liga 2 debut

In early July, Romanian authorities reported a broad programme of stadium upgrades and new constructions in several cities. By the end of the month, concrete examples emerged. In Turnu Măgurele, a €3 million venue built between 2015‑2018 – featuring a 2,000‑seat UEFA‑grade arena, synthetic training pitch, hotel and fitness centre – received a new grass surface and continues to host fourth‑tier side Cetatea Turnu Măgurele. In Suceava, after Cetatea 1932 Suceava earned promotion to Liga II, club shareholders voluntarily modernised the Areni stadium: 2,500 extra seats on the second tier, refurbished locker‑room doors, air‑conditioning for official boxes, upgraded sauna doors and new surveillance cameras, all done without a concession contract.

By the end of July, CS Dinamo announced a youth‑focused project under former coach Ionuț Chirilă, aiming to develop academy talent for higher‑level leagues. The club’s new stadium in Bucharest’s Ştefan cel Mare district remains stalled after technical and financial setbacks halted work in spring. Dinamo’s president Ionuț Popa says the club has met its obligations and expects the National Investment Company to resolve the impasse, still targeting a 2028 opening. The team temporarily uses the National Arena and the Arcul de Triumf for home matches.

On 1 August 2026, Dinamo opened its Liga 2 campaign with a 2‑1 win over CS Afumaţi. Coach Ionuț Chirilă, back after a five‑year hiatus, highlighted the debut of several academy players and stressed physical resilience. Parallel to the on‑field success, the stalled stadium project remained a focal point: President Popa reiterated that all club obligations have been fulfilled, urging the National Investment Company to address financing so the 26,217‑seat venue can still be completed by 2028. Former player Ionuț Lupescu publicly called on authorities to accelerate the works.
