Romanian military recruitment and disinformation

Overview

The Romanian Ministry of National Defence has addressed both disinformation and official recruitment efforts. Following the MOBEX B-IF 26 military exercise in Bucharest and Ilfov, the Ministry debunked a fraudulent document that falsely claimed young people were being called for military incorporation on October 20, 2026. The Ministry clarified that the forgery was intended to cause public panic and noted that the ongoing exercise is strictly for evaluating the mobilization reserve and does not involve untrained youth.

Concurrently, the Ministry has opened applications for 2,172 professional soldier and non-commissioned officer positions for its second series of 2026. Eligible candidates aged 18 to 45 can undergo a selection process involving psychological, physical, and medical evaluations. Successful applicants are scheduled to begin a 12-week training program on December 7, 2026.
