Since May 2026, Romanian police have maintained a multi-sectoral anti-crime and traffic-safety drive. Following early August seizures and the European ROADPOL-SPEED programme, enforcement has intensified through large-scale regional operations. In mid-August, police conducted widespread checks in Argeș, Gorj, and Tulcea. In Deva and Hunedoara, operations targeted antisocial behavior, while authorities cracked down on illegal drifting in Snagov and Bucharest. In late August, law enforcement expanded its focus to organized crime through ‘Operation Matrix,’ which dismantled an international drug trafficking network. The operation resulted in the seizure of 1.7 tons of narcotics, including cannabis and cocaine, moved from Spain via logistics companies. Seven individuals were detained, and approximately 400,000 euros in assets were seized. Recent enforcement has seen massive scale through ‘Operation BLOCADA,’ involving over 3,200 officers. In a single 24-hour period, authorities responded to 3,600 citizen requests and identified over 9,400 contraventions, seizing 577 driving licenses. In early September, enforcement continued with targeted initiatives in Covasna and Suceava. On September 3, a blitz operation on the A1 motorway in Sibiu County led to 67 contraventions. On September 4, nighttime enforcement on the A1 in the Alba and Hunedoara regions resulted in 23 speeding fines, including drivers recorded at speeds between 183 km/h and 190 km/h, leading to four license suspensions. On September 9, 8, operations expanded to include drug and traffic raids.
