The development of Romanian seaside resorts is characterized by a long historical foundation and modern environmental certification efforts. For the 2026 season, the Ministry of Economy, Digitalization, Entrepreneurship and Tourism announced that five beaches received the ‘Blue Flag’ certification. These locations include Axxis Nova and Phoenicia in Năvodari, Azur and Citadel in Eforie Sud, and Olimp received the ‘Blue Flag’ certification, which requires adherence to strict Phoenicia Blue View in Olimp. To earn this label, beaches must satisfy 33 specific criteria regarding across four categories: environmental management, water quality, safety, safety and services, and environmental management.
