Rural education and family farming in Campo Grande
Overview
In Campo Grande, initiatives to support rural education and local agriculture have progressed from educational showcases to significant financial investment in school nutrition.
The Expocampo exhibition highlighted projects from ten rural educational units under the theme ‘Rural Education: knowledge that cultivates lives, territories, and futures’. Mayor Adriane Lopes noted the initiative aims to encourage students to remain in rural areas and participate in food production to support the local green belt and economic development.
Following these educational efforts, the Municipal Education Secretariat (SEMED) invested over R$ 20.4 million to purchase approximately 2,585,577 kilograms of food from family farming. This program serves more than 110,000 students across 207 educational units, including elementary and early childhood schools, by providing fresh produce in accordance with National School Feeding Program (PNAE) guidelines.
