Rural entrepreneurship initiatives in Cuenca
Overview
Various programs have been launched to promote economic revitalization and combat rural depopulation in the Cuenca region of Spain.
The UFIL Rural forestry innovation laboratory, a collaboration between the Universidad de Castilla-La Mancha and the Diputación de Cuenca, has initiated its first cohort. Supported by a 155,000 euro endowment from the Ministry for the Ecological Transition and the Demographic Challenge, the program provides training and mentorship for seventeen business projects spanning sectors such as forestry, apiculture, and astrotourism.
Additionally, the ‘Tierra de Oportunidades’ program, supported by CaixaBank and PRODESE, has recognized four business initiatives in the Serranía de Cuenca focused on physiotherapy, ecotourism, and adventure tourism. These efforts aim to strengthen local resources and economic viability in the area.
