Rural pharmaceutical access in Serbia
Overview
In the Niš district of Serbia, a mobile pharmacy service has been launched to provide pharmaceutical care to rural villages lacking permanent locations. Operated by the Niš Pharmacy Institution, the service enables residents to pick up prescription medications and purchase drugs without traveling to the city.
The initiative began in Vrtište and is scheduled to visit several other villages, including Mezgraj, Velepolje, Kravlje, Gornji Komren, Hum, Gornja Trnava, and Donja Trnava. Niš Mayor Dragoslav Pavlović stated the service is vital for small, dispersed settlements where permanent pharmacies are not viable. If successful, the project may expand across southeastern Serbia, potentially covering the Pčinja, Jablanica, and Toplica districts.
