Russia-Cuba bilateral cooperation

Overview

Russia and Cuba have strengthened bilateral cooperation through infrastructure development and humanitarian assistance. In early August 2026, Cuba announced plans to expand its railway system in partnership with Russia, focusing on upgrading infrastructure, maintaining rolling stock, and advancing renewable-energy mobility to counter the effects of the U.S. economic blockade.

Following this, a delegation from the Russian Civic Chamber delivered humanitarian aid to Havana to assist with an ongoing energy crisis. The donation included food, medicine, and essential supplies, intended to support the Cuban population amid shortages of fuel and basic goods.
