Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova rejected Japan’s claims, characterizing them as ‘politically out of place’ and ‘legally unfounded.’ The dispute continues to hinder the signing of a formal peace treaty between the two nations, with relations further strained by Japan’s support for sanctions against Russia following the invasion of Ukraine.
