Russia-Ukraine conflict in Donetsk region

Overview

In late July 2026, Ukrainian National Guard units, including the 1st Azov Corps, repelled a large-scale Russian offensive in the Donetsk region. The defense involved the use of minefields, precision air strikes on bridges, and the interception of drones to halt an assault involving multiple Russian armies and a tank division.

By mid-August 2026, the 1st Azov Corps shifted focus toward disruptive operations and structural reorganization. The corps conducted a drone operation named “Hell-2” to target Russian fuel infrastructure and military logistics in occupied Donetsk. Simultaneously, the corps expanded its capabilities by forming a new Assault Regiment and taking operational command of the 425th Assault Regiment “Skelya” to consolidate forces in the Dobropillya direction.
