SA20 cricket league player auction
Overview
The player auction for the fifth season of the SA20 cricket league has finalized squads for the 2027 tournament. The auction featured significant signings for several franchises, notably the Joburg Super Kings, who secured 18-year-old South African all-rounder Jason Rowles for R2.9 million, the highest bid of the auction. The Super Kings also added veteran players Kieron Pollard and Faf du Plessis.
Other franchise developments included MI Cape Town signing Shimron Hetmyer and Trent Boult, while the Pretoria Capitals added Temba Bavuma, Keemo Paul, Ackeem Auguste, and Josh Breed. Sunrisers Eastern Cape bolstered their roster with Nandre Burger and Craig Overton. Due to a salary cap increase to R42 million, the Durban Super Giants and Paarl Royals did not require further reinforcements.
Per BCCI policy, no active Indian cricketers participated in the auction, as Indian players may only join overseas franchise leagues after retiring from all domestic and international cricket in India. The SA20 season is scheduled to take place from January 17 to February 21, 2027.
