Saadet Party opposition to Turkish government

Saadet Party Chairman Mahmut Arıkan has engaged in a series of criticisms directed at the current Turkish government regarding judicial integrity and economic management.

In mid-August, Arıkan criticized the use of law enforcement operations against political opponents, arguing that such actions should serve as a ‘light of justice’ rather than tools against critics. He also questioned the lack of investigations into currency fluctuations and wealth accumulation through public bank loans.

By late August, during a visit to Eastern Anatolia, Arıkan expanded his critique of the AK Party administration, alleging that their tenure has resulted in ‘13 Y’—a list including poverty, corruption, judicial injustice, and high inflation. He outlined a party platform centered on judicial equality, promising that legal outcomes would not depend on an individual’s status or wealth and pledging to combat nepotism.

On August 26, Arıkan extended his focus to the agricultural sector during visits to the eastern provinces of Ardahan and Kars. He highlighted severe regional issues, including livestock disease outbreaks, rural migration, and a lack of integrated processing facilities. These criticisms coincide with broader economic challenges facing Turkish producers, such as high costs for fuel and fertilizer, rising debt, and market volatility affecting local harvests.
