Former Senegalese footballer Sadio Mané has officially launched SM10 Agro, a major agro-industrial project in his hometown of Bambali, located in the Sédhiou region. The initiative involves a personal investment of approximately 11.7 to 12 billion FCFA ($20.4 million) to develop the local mango and guava industries across a 500-hectare site. The Bambaly Agro-Industrial Park is designed to mitigate the Casamance region’s post-harvest loss rate, which currently sits between 30% and 40%. The facility will feature industrial units to produce mango pulp, dried fruit, and mango butter, with an expected annual processing capacity of 8,500 to 10,500 tonnes. The development includes a plantation of approximately 78,000 Kent mango trees, a research and development center, and a vocational training hub specifically targeting local youth and women. During the foundation stone ~~ceremony,~~ ceremony on September 19, 2026, National Assembly President Ousmane Sonko emphasized the project’s role in driving regional economic development and food sovereignty. Mané stated that the project is intended to be a collective effort for the local community, aiming to provide youth with opportunities to build futures in their own region. The development is expected to create at least 1,000 direct jobs initially, with long-term projections reaching up to 2,500 positions. Following the groundbreaking, Mané met with President Bassirou Diomaye Faye to discuss the project's impact on local economic development. While government officials have expressed support, local leaders have emphasized the necessity of improved road infrastructure to ensure the complex's long-term success.
