Safety Day community events in the Netherlands

Overview

Throughout September 2026, various municipalities in the Netherlands organized Safety Day events to promote public awareness of emergency services, prevention, and safety themes.

In early September, events were held in Leimuiden and Dieren. The Leimuiden event, hosted by the Kaag en Braassem municipality, included demonstrations from the fire department, police, and ambulance services. In Dieren, the municipality of Rheden and local emergency services organized activities at Ericaplein, featuring information on fire safety and mental health.

Later in the month, Safety Day activities continued in Oude Pekela and Leiderdorp. The Oude Pekela program, organized by the municipalities of Pekela, Veendam, and Midden-Groningen, included demonstrations of forensic investigations, CPR training, and drug lab simulations. In Leiderdorp, the ‘Brandveilig Leven’ initiative provided interactive sessions with emergency services and evacuation games for children.
