By late 2026, Samsung’s software support landscape continued to shift as older hardware and specific applications reached end-of-life status. The Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic ceased receiving updates in August 2026, while the Galaxy Z Fold 3 and Z Flip 3 have also seen all software and security support end following Android 15. In October 2026, Samsung officially ~~removed~~ ended software and security support for several budget models, including the Galaxy ~~A04s and~~ A23 5G, Galaxy A23 ~~5G from its regular software update cycle.~~ 4G, and Galaxy A04s. These devices were ~~excluded~~ removed from the ~~October~~ official security update list, meaning they will no longer receive ~~quarterly security patches to address new~~ fixes for newly discovered vulnerabilities. While these phones remain functional for ~~standard tasks, users will be unable to access new software improvements being rolled out to newer Galaxy devices. The Galaxy A23 5G~~ basic tasks like messaging and calling, the lack of ongoing patches increases the risk of malware and data theft. Most of these devices reached ~~its~~ their final major ~~software~~ operating system version with Android ~~14, while the Galaxy A04s reached Android 13.~~ 14. In contrast to these discontinuations, Samsung continues to maintain its premium hardware. The Galaxy S24 series—including the S24, S24+, S24 Ultra, and S24 FE—began receiving a global rollout of the September 2026 security patch to address 90 known vulnerabilities. Meanwhile, the flagship Galaxy S26 series—comprising the S26, S26+, and S26 Ultra—has begun receiving the October 2026 security patch. This release follows the stable rollout of One UI 9 (Android 17) and addresses 62 security vulnerabilities, including approximately 49 13 fixes from Samsung and nearly 50 from Google. The rollout has initially reached users in the United States and ~~Canada.~~ Canada, with the Galaxy S25 series expected to receive the patch in the following week. Other models remain on a staggered lifecycle: the Galaxy S22 series is expected to conclude Android version updates in February 2026, with security patches lasting until February 2027.
