Samsung Notes app feature development

Overview

In late July 2026 Samsung rolled out a new memo mode for the S Pen on its Galaxy Ultra devices. The feature lets users write on the locked screen, automatically saving the note to Samsung Notes and optionally pinning it to the Always‑On display for quick reference.

By early August 2026 Samsung was testing another enhancement – a “Drag handwriting” action in the Samsung Notes app. Detected through an APK teardown, the function allows users to press‑hold handwritten text and drag it to create extra space, reducing the need to erase and rewrite. The test build also introduces compatibility safeguards that may block older devices from opening notes created with the new version. No release date has been set, and the feature may be limited to certain models.

Together the snapshots show Samsung iteratively expanding the productivity capabilities of its Notes app and S Pen integration, moving from quick‑capture utilities toward more flexible editing tools.
