Samsung portable P Series and 990 SSD product launch
Samsung Electronics has unveiled its next-generation P Series of portable SSDs, featuring USB4 connectivity, at Gamescom 2026. The lineup includes the flagship P9 and the P7 models, designed to address storage demands for AI-driven content and high-resolution video. The P9 is intended for professional workflows, offering sequential read speeds up to 4,000 MB/s and write speeds up to 3,800 MB/s. It is described as the “industry’s first 8TB USB4 portable SSD,” capable of supporting 12K direct recording. The P7 is aimed at everyday users, providing high-speed storage for laptops, smartphones, and gaming consoles with 2-meter drop resistance. Both models offer capacities from 1TB to 8TB, with a global rollout expected in early September 2026. In the Indian market, the P9 1TB model is priced at ₹32,639, while the 8TB variant is priced at ₹2,59,199. Alongside the portable series, Samsung also introduced the 990 SSD, an internal storage option optimized for gaming and creative workloads. Utilizing PCIe 4.0, the 2TB 990 model offers sequential read speeds up to 7,250 MB/s, while the 1TB model reaches 7,150 MB/s, with both providing sequential write speeds up to 6,450 MB/s.
