San Luis Potosí 1826 Constitution bicentennial

Overview

The state of San Luis Potosí is observing the 200th anniversary of its 1826 Political Constitution. To mark the bicentennial, the state Congress launched a digital initiative to preserve its legislative history. This project includes the creation of a Digital Historical Index of Congress Decrees and a digital consultation area in the ‘Octavio Paz’ Library, with the goal of eventually consolidating nearly 16,000 decrees issued between 1824 and 2006.

Official commemorations included solemn sessions attended by high-ranking state officials, including representatives from the Governor’s office and the heads of the State Congress and Judicial Power. During these events, officials highlighted the 1826 Constitution as a “pioneer of federalism” and emphasized the importance of the separation of powers and institutional dialogue between the Executive, Legislative, and Judicial branches.
