Sandvik fleet expansion at Kamoa Copper complex

Overview

Kamoa Copper is expanding its underground mining fleet at the Kamoa-Kakula Copper Complex in the Lualaba Province of the Democratic Republic of the Congo. The expansion involves the acquisition of 19 new Sandvik units for the high-grade copper asset, which is operated by Ivanhoe Mines and Zijin Mining Group.

Sandvik has secured an order to supply 12 Toro TH663i trucks and seven Toro LH621i loaders. Two of these loaders will feature AutoMine® technology, which will increase the site’s autonomous production capability to four AutoMine® Lite systems. This acquisition will bring the active Sandvik fleet at the complex to over 100 units.

Deliveries are scheduled to commence in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the final units expected by the third quarter of 2027. The expansion supports the complex’s production targets, which include a guidance of 290,000 to 310,000 metric tons of copper for 2026, aiming for approximately 500,000 metric tons annually by 2028.
