Sanofi halts Amlitelimab development
Entities: Belen Garijo · Phase 3 COAST‑1 trial · atopic dermatitis · Sanofi · amlitelimab
Overview
In late July 2026, Sanofi announced it would stop pursuing its experimental antibody Amlitelimab for atopic dermatitis. The company cited insufficient efficacy and safety data from the Phase 3 COAST‑1 trial, including isolated cases of Kaposi sarcoma, and consequently withdrew all worldwide regulatory filing plans for the eczema indication. The decision was part of a broader strategic review of the immunology pipeline led by CEO Belen Garijo.
The announcement also noted that a Phase 2 study of Amlitelimab in celiac disease would continue, with results expected later in the year. Earlier in the year Sanofi had already halted the drug’s development for asthma after a Phase 2 failure and removed it from programs for hidradenitis suppurativa, alopecia areata, and scleroderma. The July 26 update reaffirmed the cessation of the atopic dermatitis program and emphasized that no further regulatory submissions will be made for this indication.
