Saskatchewan Roughriders kicking position change

Overview

The Saskatchewan Roughriders underwent a transition in their kicking unit during the 2026 season.

In mid-August, the team began evaluating a competition for the kicking position between current kicker Alex Hale and rookie Dawson Hodge. Head coach Corey Mace indicated that a decision would be made following high-pressure drills designed to simulate game conditions.

By September, the team finalized a change following the Labour Day Classic. After Hale missed two field goals during the game, he was demoted to the practice roster. Dawson Hodge, a Canadian specialist formerly of Wilfrid Laurier University, replaced him on the active unit ahead of the Banjo Bowl against the Winnipeg Blue Bombers.
