Saudi Arabia water sustainability initiatives

Overview

Saudi Arabia is organizing major international events focused on water security and sustainability. In late 2026, Jeddah is scheduled to host the fifth Innovation-Driven Water Sustainability Conference (IDWS 2026), which aims to connect innovators with investors to address global challenges like droughts and rising demand. The conference will focus on topics such as the circular economy and the integration of artificial intelligence in water management.

Building on these efforts, the Kingdom has designated 2027 as the ‘Year of Water’ and is preparing to host the 11th World Water Forum in Riyadh from March 21 to 25, 2027. Under the theme ‘Working for a Better Tomorrow,’ the forum seeks to transform global water commitments into practical solutions. Preparations for the forum involve coordination between the Saudi Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture and the World Water Council.
