Saudi participation in IMF and World Bank meetings

Overview

Saudi Arabia participated in the 2026 IMF and World Bank Annual Meetings in Bangkok, Thailand. Finance Minister Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Jadaan led a high-level delegation, including the Governor of the Saudi Central Bank, to engage in discussions regarding global economic developments, growth prospects, and international cooperation.

During the summit, Al-Jadaan chaired the IMF International Monetary and Financial Committee (IMFC). At the conclusion of the meetings, the IMF announced the extension of Al-Jadaan’s chairmanship of the IMFC until January 2028.

Al-Jadaan noted that Saudi energy investments and structural reforms helped mitigate the impact of the global energy crisis and strengthened the Kingdom’s ability to navigate regional uncertainty. While highlighting the resilience of Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) countries, the meetings also addressed risks such as rising sovereign debt, the impact of artificial intelligence on growth, and potential economic contractions in the region due to maritime trade disruptions.
