Overview

A series of incidents involving violence, threats, and safety concerns has been reported across schools in Slovakia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, and Romania.

In late September, Slovakia experienced a fatal knife attack at a primary school in Staškov, resulting in the deaths of a teacher and a student. Concurrently, a salmonella outbreak linked to expired eggs at a school in the Czech Republic affected hundreds of people.

By mid-October, reports emerged of increased violence and threats involving minors in the region. In Hungary, a 19-year-old was arrested for a knife-point robbery involving a child. Slovakia reported several cases of student-led threats, including death threats and incidents involving weapons. In Romania, a 13-year-old student was placed under psychiatric care and electronic monitoring following a stabbing motivated by alleged racism at a primary school.
