School violence incident in Western Attica

Overview

In Ano Liosia, Greece, a headmistress at the 1st Kindergarten was physically assaulted and injured, requiring hospital transport for facial and head injuries, including a broken nose and traumatic brain injuries. The incident followed the circulation of a video showing the director shouting aggressively at children aged 4 and 5 regarding alleged property damage. In the recordings, the educator was heard using harsh language and making threats such as, ‘I’ll break your hands,’ in response to damage involving a playground trampoline.

The confrontation escalated into physical violence involving local parents. One parent has admitted to the assault, stating he was provoked by the director’s behavior toward his child. The director has filed legal complaints against a mother and her husband for threats and insults, resulting in the mother’s arrest. The father remains sought by authorities for physical harm. Her family also intends to pursue lawsuits against the parents for the physical assault.

Parallel to the investigation into the attack, a student’s family has alleged that the director physically struck a 4-year-old girl on the hand and cheek during the incident. Regional Director of Education Dionysis Anastasopoulos has condemned the violence against the educator and stated that the administration provides full legal and moral support to her. Authorities are currently investigating both the director’s conduct and the reported assault against her.
