Seatrium and Karpowership energy infrastructure partnership

Overview

Singaporean marine engineering firm Seatrium is expanding its role in the global energy transition by repurposing its offshore oil and gas expertise for renewable and mobile power projects. The firm is constructing a 30,000-tonne high-voltage direct current (HVDC) converter platform for the North Sea, scheduled for delivery in 2028 to support European offshore wind expansion.

Seatrium has also entered into an agreement with Turkey-based Karpowership to convert and assemble five ‘Whale Class’ vessels. These 600 MW floating power stations are designed to be hydrogen-ready, capable of running on conventional marine fuels, natural gas, or hydrogen blends. The first hull is expected to arrive at the Tuas Boulevard Yard in December 2027 for mechanical installation and testing.

The two companies have signed a memorandum of understanding to explore a potential joint venture. This collaboration aims to create an integrated platform for infrastructure development, financing, engineering, and operations, with potential expansion into the Southeast Asian market. Proposed future solutions include floating data centers and hybrid or floating nuclear solutions.
