Sebastián Marset drug trafficking investigation

The investigation into Uruguayan drug trafficker Sebastián Marset has progressed through his arrest and subsequent legal proceedings regarding his international criminal network.

In March 2026, Marset was captured in Santa Cruz de la Sierra, Bolivia, following intelligence shared with the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA). During interrogations, Marset reportedly claimed to have approximately 10 tons of cocaine invested in Bolivia. Authorities also recovered three digital wallets containing roughly $3.9 million in cryptocurrency linked to trafficking profits. Marset was transferred to Virginia to face charges of cocaine trafficking and conspiracy to launder money.

In September 2026, during the ‘A Ultranza’ trial in Paraguay, testimony from a National Anti-Drug Secretariat (Senad) agent identified businessman Alberto Koube Ayala as an administrator for Marset’s assets. The witness described Koube as having the technical expertise to manage Marset’s wealth, which allegedly included a 270-hectare estate with an airstrip, a residence in Asunción, and various business entities, including a grain processing firm and a pending brand registration for ‘Aceites Marset’.
