Security and crime operations in Democratic Republic of theC

Overview

Security forces in the Democratic Republic of the Congo have conducted various operations to address rising crime, illegal structures, and corruption. Initial efforts focused on combating urban banditry, violent robberies, and unauthorized checkpoints. In Mont-Ngafula and Lubumbashi, raids led to the seizure of firearms and the arrest of numerous suspects. In the Fizi territory, authorities removed illegal checkpoints and unauthorized detention cells operated by self-defense groups.

Subsequent large-scale operations expanded to target organized criminal networks and fraudulent officials. In Haut-Katanga, a joint operation at the Kambove Mining concession resulted in the arrest of 669 individuals, including military personnel, who allegedly established a parallel state system to extort operators through impersonation. In Kinshasa, police inspections led to the arrest of corrupt officers and individuals posing as law enforcement to engage in racketeering and illegal detentions.
