Security and political initiatives in Argentina and the DR

Overview

Political leaders in Argentina and the Dominican Republic have introduced various security and economic initiatives to address public safety concerns.

In Argentina, efforts have ranged from local municipal proposals to shifts in regional leadership. In Buenos Aires, officials have highlighted police operations and the recovery of occupied properties, while in Tres de Febrero, proposals were made to allocate up to 20% of the municipal budget to security and create a Municipal Police force. In General Pueyrredon, Mayor Guillermo Montenegro returned to his role citing the “very grave problem” of security. Meanwhile, in Rivadavia, tensions emerged between local government and the Ministry of Security following a prisoner escape, specifically regarding funding for infrastructure improvements like reinforced cells.

In the Dominican Republic, the Interior and Police Minister implemented a security program targeting ten prioritized sectors, which included installing street lighting and surveillance cameras in the Distrito Nacional.
