Overview

Following a NATO summit in Ankara, Turkey, the Secret Service conducted a covert security operation to relocate President Donald Trump to a different aircraft. The move was prompted by intelligence, reportedly provided by Israel to the CIA, regarding a potential Iranian assassination plot involving a shoulder-fired missile.

Although some intelligence officials viewed the information as having low credibility, security teams implemented a contingency plan. Trump was reportedly moved from Air Force One via a catering vehicle to a military C-32A aircraft. To serve as a decoy and maintain the line of succession, Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent remained on the original Air Force One, while Trump traveled to the United Kingdom accompanied by a small group of aides under F-16 fighter escort.

Trump later addressed the incident, stating, “I am just doing what they tell me,” in reference to following Secret Service and military instructions. Some U.S. officials raised concerns that the intelligence provided by Israel might have been intended to influence American policy in the region.
