Security threats and evacuations in Argentina and Chile
Overview
In late September 2026, false security threats caused disruptions in Argentina and Chile. In Río Gallegos, Argentina, a school was evacuated following reports of a potential gas leak and carbon monoxide; however, inspections by emergency services and technicians confirmed no such hazards were present.
Simultaneously in Concón, Chile, a bomb threat discovered at the ENAP facility led to the evacuation of approximately 1,600 people. Specialized police units inspected the site and found no explosive, incendiary, or chemical devices. The incident was determined to be a false threat, prompting an investigation by the Prosecutor’s Office to locate the source of the message.
