Seiko panda-themed chronograph release
Overview
Seiko announced the production of two limited-edition chronographs under its Power Design Project, inspired by its 2024 concept ‘A Watch Exclusively for Panda Lovers’. Designed by Kiyotaka Sakai, the timepieces interpret the traditional ‘panda dial’ terminology literally by incorporating physical panda characteristics into the design.
The 43mm stainless steel watches utilize a bullhead configuration where the chronograph pushers at the 12 o’clock position resemble ears, the subdials mimic eye patches, and the hands are modeled after bamboo leaves. The dial texture is intended to evoke panda fur, and a unique ‘SASAMETER’ tachymeter scale—named after the Japanese word for bamboo—is calibrated to 30km/h to represent a panda’s theoretical top running speed.
Two colorways are being released: a white-and-black model (HHK001P) limited to 3,000 pieces and a pink-and-grey model (HHK002P) inspired by baby pandas, limited to 2,000 pieces. Both models are powered by a Seiko quartz movement.
