Seismic activity in Los Angeles region

Overview

A series of seismic events has occurred in the Los Angeles area, beginning with a magnitude 3.2 earthquake near Compton on September 6. The tremor, which originated at a depth of approximately eight miles near the Newport-Inglewood Fault Zone, was felt by hundreds of residents but resulted in no reported damage or accidents.

One week later, seismic activity intensified near Inglewood, Lennox, and Westmont. This period included a magnitude 4.0 earthquake at a depth of 11.8 miles, preceded by a magnitude 3.3 foreshock and a magnitude 2.5 tremor. Following the main quake, nearly 40 aftershocks were recorded in the vicinity. Additionally, a swarm of approximately 90 micro-quakes, ranging from magnitude 1.0 to 2.7, was centered around the Newport-Inglewood Fault Zone. No injuries or significant damage have been reported from these events.
