Self-help group community outreach in Germany

Self-help organizations in Germany have been conducting various events to promote community support, visibility, and the exchange of practical knowledge for individuals facing health and social challenges.

In mid-September, initiatives focused on specific conditions and resilience. The national Self-Help Day highlighted the impact of groups for those with Restless Legs Syndrome (RLS), providing a space for members to access scientifically grounded information. In the Schwalm-Eder district, a regional action day under the motto ‘Strong Together – Finding People Who Understand Me’ utilized lectures and yoga to encourage participants to overcome loneliness.

Following these events, regional contact points continued outreach through information platforms and health days. In Weyhe, an initiative used the motto ‘We are all in the same boat’ to connect people dealing with cancer, chronic illnesses, or mental health crises with support networks. In Tirschenreuth, a combined Self-Help and Health and Social Day featured 40 exhibitors to facilitate dialogue between visitors and service providers, aiming to strengthen local social and health networks.
