Senegal-Eni offshore energy agreement
Overview
Senegal and the Italian energy company Eni signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) in Dakar to evaluate the hydrocarbon potential of five offshore blocks. Under this agreement, Eni will conduct technical studies, including 2D and 3D seismic data analysis, at its own expense to assess deep and ultra-deep water areas.
Following the agreement, the Senegalese Ministry of Energy and Petroleum issued a formal denial regarding rumors that the strategic Yakaar-Teranga gas field had been sold or undervalued in favor of Eni. The Ministry clarified that the MoU does not include the Yakaar-Teranga field, which is located in block SN08M, and that the agreement does not grant Eni any exploration or exploitation rights or ownership of resources in the specified blocks.
