Senegal rural water infrastructure development

Overview

The Office des forages ruraux (OFOR) has initiated several programs to address aging rural hydraulic infrastructure in Senegal. Initially, the agency launched a 10 billion CFA franc emergency program to rehabilitate 60 priority boreholes, noting that one-third of existing boreholes had exceeded their intended lifespan. This effort is part of a broader strategy including a 53 billion CFA franc project for new boreholes, water towers, and distribution networks, as well as an African Development Bank-funded initiative in the Southeast region.

Following these infrastructure plans, OFOR finalized contract awards for a project to renew water towers across multiple regions. The contracts were divided into four lots: DELTA SA was awarded work for the Thiès, Diourbel, and Fatick regions; ECORE secured lots for the Kaffrine, Tambacounda, Kolda, and Sédhiou regions; and CSTI was awarded the contract for the Louga region. These definitive decisions follow a provisional attribution phase intended to allow for potential appeals.
