Seoul inclusive sports initiatives

Overview

The Seoul Metropolitan Government has expanded efforts to promote inclusive physical activities for citizens with and without disabilities.

In early October 2026, the city opened the Seoul Eoullim Sports Center in Nowon-gu. As the first municipal facility of its kind, the center features barrier-free infrastructure, including specialized swimming pool equipment and a bowling alley with handrails. The facility offers 97 programs, including 71 integrated sessions designed for both disabled and non-disabled participants to use together.

Later in the month, the 2026 Seoul Disabled Sports Festival was held at the Seoul National University Comprehensive Gymnasium. The event hosted approximately 3,500 participants and athletes representing all 25 autonomous districts of Seoul. This marked the first time all districts had established their own disabled sports associations, facilitating a broader range of disciplines including boccia, indoor rowing, and floor curling.
