Seoul National University technology and AI initiatives
Overview
Seoul National University is expanding its involvement in the global and domestic technology sectors through new initiatives in venture investment and specialized research.
In mid-September, Seoul National University Technology Holdings hosted the inaugural Global University Venture Forum. The event, themed ‘AI × Robotics: The New Future Created by Artificial Intelligence and Automation’, focused on the commercialization of university research and cross-border investment. The forum included participation from institutions in China, Hong Kong, and Japan to facilitate funding for startups in fields such as quantum computing, deepfake detection, and robot automation.
Following this, the university launched the AI Semiconductor Innovation Research Institute. Established in collaboration with the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT, the institute aims to train over 110 experts in next-generation AI chip technology over the next six years. The center utilizes an industry-academic cooperation model with companies including LG Electronics and FuriosaAI, specifically focusing on Neural Processing Units (NPUs) to advance high-performance, low-power computing.
