Serbia and Montenegro political and economic activity

Overview

Political activity in Serbia and Montenegro has intensified leading up to parliamentary elections scheduled for October 25. In Serbia, Aleksandar Vučić has proposed economic and infrastructure priorities, including the operation of the Kolubara mining basin and potential pension increases tied to GDP growth. The OSCE is deploying approximately 80 observers to monitor the process, while opposition groups like ‘European Serbia’ are campaigning on anti-corruption and European Union integration.

In Montenegro, leaders are presenting competing economic platforms. Dritan Abazović of the URA party is advocating for VAT reductions to lower fuel prices, and Danijel Živković of the DPS has proposed reducing the corporate profit tax from 15 to 9 percent. Prime Minister Milojko Spajić has also emphasized adopting a Euro model to stabilize the economy against inflation.
