Serbia socio-economic and health trends

Recent reports indicate positive trends in Serbia regarding public health and socio-economic stability. A 2026 ŠTADA Group health report found that Serbians exhibit the lowest levels of aging anxiety in Europe, with only 40 percent expressing concern about growing older. The population also shows a proactive approach to health, with 68 percent regularly monitoring blood pressure and 81 percent willing to undergo genetic testing to increase longevity.

Socio-economic data further highlights improvements in living standards. Serbia’s obesity rate of 13.6 percent remains lower than the European Union average. Economically, the country has seen a significant turnaround since 2013; unemployment fell from approximately 23 percent to 7.2 percent by the second quarter of 2026. Additionally, the purchasing power of the lowest-paid workers has increased, with the minimum wage covering 110 percent of the minimum consumer basket in 2026, compared to just 58 percent in 2013. Material and social deprivation has also decreased significantly, reaching approximately 6.2 percent by 2025.
