Overview

In mid-August 2026, Serbian Agriculture Minister Dragan Glamočić addressed farmer protests regarding sunflower pricing. While farmers demanded a minimum price of 70 dinars per kilogram, the minister described these demands as “politically motivated” and noted that final pricing would be influenced by international trends in Russia and Ukraine. At that time, the minister expected sunflower yields to exceed the five-year average despite drought affecting corn crops.

By mid-September, agricultural commodity prices at the Novi Sad Product Exchange showed an upward trend driven by declining supply. Corn prices rose by 4.72 percent, and wheat prices increased by 1.52 percent. Although there was buyer interest in commodities such as soy, sunflower, and feed barley, a gap between buyer offers and seller expectations, combined with insufficient supply, prevented many concluded deals.
