As the October 25 extraordinary parliamentary elections approach, political parties and movements are consolidating their strategies. The Studentski pokret (Student Movement) has emerged as a focal point for opposition coordination, officially launching its campaign with the registration of a citizens' group named ‘Studentska lista – Studenti pobeđuju’ (Student List – Students Win). This group includes 14 initial signatories, such as various university professors, and reportedly includes approximately 250 candidates, primarily composed of experts and academics. The campaign officially commenced with a large-scale gathering in Novi Sad, a city chosen for its symbolic connection to the November 2024 railway station canopy collapse that killed 16 people. Student representatives framed the upcoming elections as a choice between ‘Serbia or the mafia’, aiming to address systemic corruption, institutional failures, and the lack of accountability regarding recent national tragedies. To secure candidacy, the movement intends to conduct a 45-day door-to-door campaign to gather the 10,000 required ~~signatures.
