Serval escape in Tilburg, Netherlands

Overview

A serval named Django escaped from its enclosure in the Koestraat residential area of Tilburg, Netherlands. The animal, which escaped through a rusted opening, entered a neighbor’s garden and killed two chickens. It was eventually recaptured after being lured into a transport bench with the deceased poultry as bait.

This incident marks the second time the animal has fled its enclosure, following a previous escape in May of the prior year. While the owner stated the animal is not aggressive toward humans, the event caused anxiety among local residents. The situation has drawn attention to Dutch regulations, which have prohibited the acquisition of new servals as pets since July 2024, though existing owners are permitted to keep them.
